Psycho-educational assessments are often requested by parents, teachers and pediatricians to secure information needed to determine the best instructional approaches and accommodations required for a student to be successful. Our assessments help identify learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dyscalculia or dysgraphia as well as emotional/behavioral conditions such as ADHD, depression or anxiety that may impact learning or school performance. Our assessments help identify the student's unique learning characteristics and the instructional and testing accommodations needed for the student to optimize learning, succeed in school, and be fairly assessed using standardized tests of achievement and standardized tests used for high school placement or application to college or graduate school.
Our practice provides advocacy and consultation services to support a student’s need to secure accommodations for standardized testing such as high school placement tests and college entrance examinations and instructional accommodations in K-12, college, and graduate school settings. We also provide advocacy and assist in identification of students who qualify for specialized educational services and accommodations through their local public school. We assist in identifying students eligible for Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Instructional and Testing Accommodations plans through Section 504 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act. We provide recommendations on goals and objectives, instructional approaches, and instructional and testing accommodations. When needed, we do classroom observations, participate in parent/teacher conferences, and attend IEP and 504 meetings. We also provide assistance with drafting a complaint to the local school district or the Maryland State Department of Education.
